Update July 27, 2026: Open Beta signups are live — the Steam page now has a Request Access button. That is step one now; the Discord route below still matters for waves and announcements. Honest odds, no tricks, no key sellers.
This is the whole ballgame. GFC's own words (Missive X, official Steam announcement): "the majority of testing announcements, key distribution, and sign-up information will be communicated there." Official invite, linked from playhunger.com: discord.com/invite/playhunger.
Keys go out in waves during a test. Turn on notifications for announcements so you don't miss a sign-up window or a key drop — waves have opened mid-test before, per GFC's descriptions of wave-based distribution.
The official site has a newsletter ("Receive all HUNGER news"). It's a legitimate official channel for announcements, though Discord is where keys are actually distributed.
Wishlisting/following on Steam and Epic gets you store notifications when the game actually releases. Be clear-eyed: it does not grant test access.
Tech Test 3 is a closed, limited test. GFC says participant numbers and distribution are "guided by the specific systems we are evaluating" — regional coverage, matchmaking behaviour, server performance, latency. Translation: how many keys go out, and where, depends on what they're testing that week — not on how much you want in. Joining the Discord and watching announcements is the strategy. Anyone promising a guaranteed way in is lying to you.
For Tech Test 3, players may show the game publicly — GFC: "the community will finally have the opportunity to show Hunger publicly." That's new; earlier tests were kept under wraps (and it's why footage suddenly flooded out in late June 2026, making people think the game had released). If you get in, read the current test's own rules before streaming — conditions can differ per test.
There is no legitimate way to buy access to HUNGER. Access is free — via the Request Access widget on the official Steam page (Open Beta signups, live since early July 2026) or Good Fun Corporation's official Discord waves. Listings selling HUNGER keys or accounts are scam bait: at best a key that gets revoked, at worst stolen payment info. Any site taking "sign-ups" outside Steam or the official Discord is not official.
Watch the official announcement/testing channels. Key distribution and sign-up info is posted there in waves. There's no separate application form we can verify beyond what GFC posts in Discord itself.
The current phase is Tech Test 3 (closed). After it, GFC has said the order is polish → Open Beta → launch. The Open Beta should be your realistic "everyone gets in" moment — no date announced yet.
No — TT3 is described by GFC as their "largest influx of new players" so far, with keys distributed through the community Discord, not just to creators. But it is limited, so plenty of Discord members don't get in on a given wave.
Test access is free via keys. The game's price and business model haven't been announced.
Officially: Open Beta comes after Tech Test 3 (no date announced). We track every date signal on the release date page and check status daily on is HUNGER out?.
Can't get a key? We'll email you when HUNGER actually releases or the Open Beta / a release date is announced. No spam — just the signal.
